We all would like more luck in our lives.
The belief in luck can help many get through a big interview, event, or competition, or also just help to make people feel more hopeful in everyday life. If you have the believe that good luck is just around the corner, then you go about your day with a more positive outlook and with increased confidence.
To find out the best ways to bring luck into your life, and if the belief in luck can actually change the situation, SlotsWise carried out a study of 1,200 people to find where in the UK are the biggest believers in good luck, found out if they were actually luckier and then discovered the practises that they were using to bring luck into their lives. And the results definitely show that you should give the practises of good luck a shot.
Can the belief in good luck make you luckier?
When looking into who in the UK believes in good luck. The study found that 3 regions in the UK are the biggest believers of good luck; London, East Midlands and the South West, in which 57% of people in each region believe in good luck.
When looking further into these regions, it was found that the Midlands and London are home to the most millionaire lottery winners. When looking further into this point, it was found that one of the regions with the lowest number of millionaire lottery winners, the North East, also has one of the lowest numbers of believers in good luck.
Although this could be a coincidence, it definitely shows that those who believe in good luck seem to be reaping the rewards.
What are the most popular good luck practises in the UK?
When looking into how people bring good luck into their lives, there were 3 clear favourite practises to bring luck:
- The most popular good luck practise was found to be saying “touch wood” or physically knocking on it. This ancient superstition is believed to stem from pagan cultures who believed that spirits and gods resided in trees. Knocking on tree trunks was thought to have roused the spirits to call on their protection for whichever task lay ahead. 30% of the UK believe that ‘touching wood’ brings them good luck.
2. 26% of people believe that crossing fingers brings good luck. The symbol of crossing your fingers dates back to the pre-Christian belief in the powerful symbol of the cross, as the intersection is thought to mark a concentration of good spirits and served to anchor a wish until it could come true.
It seems like this is still working today! Of the 26% of people who believe in this practise – 20% of them have actually experienced good luck after doing so.
3. The third most popular good luck practise is to ‘pick up a penny’ – with 14% believing that this brings good luck. We all know the rhyme, ‘find a penny pick it up, and all day you’ll have good luck’, and it seems that we are still practising this whenever we can.
Whilst you can incorporate these into your everyday life, if you would like some good luck for the New Year ahead, there are certain practises that you should try for a bright 2019. Almost ¼ of people believe that kissing someone on the stroke of midnight is the best way to secure a lucky 2019.
Whereas this might not be possible for some who are away from their loved ones, you could also try to not loan out any money, as this is also a popular way to bring good luck in the year ahead.
Confidence can help us get through every day; with the belief in good luck being proven to boost confidence, and in turn, performance, and with 20% of people actually having experienced good luck after the simple practise of crossing their fingers, why not enter the New Year in a more confident manner and believe in good luck. What have you got to lose?
